Home again, home again, jiggety-jig :-)

Just got home, about 30 minutes ago. Husband is already lying down and LOOKS like he is actually sleeping! I do not know how anyone can sleep/rest in a hospital. Husband had an IV tube hanging off his chest (where the chemoport is implanted) from Sunday morning to this morning (ie, Wed 18th Nov) and just COULD NOT get comfortable enough to sleep. He was just so tense because he was scared off pulling the IV line out of the port - which would have been rather painful. Of course, on those occasions when he was so tired that he actually dropped off, somebody (the nurses, the meal delivery guy, the cleaners, the doctors) would drop in and wake him up. Then you think, OK, never mind, he can sleep at night... but, No, that didn't work either, because the minute one bottle of saline drip finished they would replace it with another - at the most "wonderful" times of 1am, 2am, 4am, etc. And, in addition to the saline drips (which had potassium, or calcium, or magnesium, or some "ium" added to it), he was also on antibiotic drips - twice a day, though, luckily, they did not have to interrupt the saline drip while giving him the antibiotic drip, as they had connected a 3-way valve to the chemoport, and could give 2 drips at one time.

In addition to all that, he was on oral meds for potassium and for the trots, and powdered drinks as well (one for the trots, and one for general nutrition).

So, this morning, he was absolutely adamant that he would NOT spend even ONE MORE DAY in the hospital, as it has been SO EXHAUSTING for him not to be able to SLEEP. Luckily the doctor agreed that it was safe to go home, especially since we are only 20 minutes drive away from the hospital and can come back quick if necessary. We have been loaded up with a whole pile of oral medicines - including the antibiotics - and our follow up visit with the gastro doc is 25th Nov, next Wed.

Now the chicken is out of the freezer and I am going to make a chicken stew for dinner later (under Husband's instructions, as this is not something I am any good at cooking :-p). So, chicken stew, with fresh bread, for dinner - anybody want some? Come on over any time this evening :-D.

On a sad note, one of my Aunt's passed away yesterday. She was very close to my mother, not just as cousins, but as FRIENDS. They had only recently found out that she had cancer, and it had spread too much to do anything about. She was also quite unwell in other areas, and therefore they decided not to do chemo for her, as she would not have been able to handle it. She died peacefully at home, and I am glad she did not suffer for years! To my cousins - Joe and Sally, and their respective spouses and children - our heartfelt condolences. May all the good memories you have of your Mum be what is uppermost always in your hearts and minds.

That's it for now, so please continue to keep Husband in your thoughts and prayers, add a prayer of blessing for my Aunt, and, till next time, stay safe, stay HEALTHY!
