... that is what I hear from Husband a lot now - not from the major surgery to close the cavity left by the sore, not from the 2 earlier surgeries, but from the left leg, the donor area on the back of the thigh where the skin was taken for a graft (to cover the part of the cavity which had pretty much filled up, but which had no skin left).
The plastic surgeon DID warn us that the most painful part of the whole operation would be that area - but I don't think either of us, especially Husband, had expected it to be THIS painful. The overall graft taken was not large - maybe 2" square?? - but the impact it has made is completely OUT of proportion to its size.... and apparently it will take about ten to fourteen days, from day of operation, for the skin to re-generate... so, if all goes well, another 5 to 9 days will see it all healed up.
In the meantime, the area to which the skin was grafted, and the area which was operated on to close the cavity, both should heal up within the next 5 to 9 days as well.
Tomorrow morning we have an appointment with the plastic surgeon. I think it is purely to change the dressing on the leg, but we shall see what, if anything, else is done.... will update if there is any news!
So, if all goes well, this stage of our journey should be completed within 10 days, and then we can commence on the next stage - the battle against colon cancer... ie, chemotherapy.
More later...
Till then, stay safe, stay HEALTHY.
