Try this one day when you go to sleep. Lie down on your side (doesn't matter left or right). And stay in that position all night. Now repeat for the next 2 weeks. No, you cannot sleep on your back. No, you cannot sleep on your OTHER side. What happens when you lie down consistently on just one side and cannot move? On that side - your hip hurts, your leg loses all feeling, the inside of your knee hurts, your shoulder kills you, your arm goes numb... end result? YOU CAN'T SLEEP.
The whole of last night Husband could not sleep because of the above. He had to sit himself up every 15 minutes, to get some feeling back into his right arm, shoulder, hip and leg. Every one hour he would have to not just sit up, but also GET up and WALK - which meant I had to disconnect him from the vacuum tube, pass him the two little bottles, wait for him to finish his walk and lie down again, put the two little bottles back in their spot, and re-connect him to the vacuum tube.
Any good news? Oh, yes....
- there seems to be very little fluid coming out from the sealed cavity
- there does not seem to be any bleeding externally (though that is a bit hard to be certain of, as the entire area is covered with bandages)
- he is eating normally again, and can make his own way to the toilet!
- he just had a good wipe down with hot bed-bath wipes and feels a lot better for it
- and there is only another 2 days till Monday and (hopefully) freedom from all the tubes!
The plastic surgeon is quite confident that within 5 - 8 days from the operation the skin graft will have 'taken', and he should be able to move around, sit down, lie down, with considerably less pain.... and be able to start chemo. So, fingers crossed and prayers going that his confidence is not misplaced.
Till later... stay safe, stay HEALTHY.
