Yep, it was quite a marathon journey for us. Thursday 21st May afternoon, left home at 3pm, and were in Melaka, at my brother's house before 5pm. Went out for dinner with brother and sis-in-law - yummy food at the Renaissance Italian restaurant. Their breads are just excellent!
Didn't get too much sleep, either of us... and were up early, leaving the house at 7.30am, getting to the hospital before 8am, registered, went to the Lab for them to get blood, then up to the oncologist clinic for the chemo. Chemo started around 9.30am, and was done by 11.30am. We had a quick (and quite pathetic) lunch at the hospital canteen, and then hit the road around 12.15pm, heading towards SG.
In SG we were staying with a really good friend of ours (Tony), so when we got to SG, we had to head straight to his office first, to pick up the house keys from him, then headed back to his place, and were settled in, with Husband resting, before 4pm. Dinner that day was simple - just walked down the road, 2 minutes, to have a roti prata. Tony had to work late that day, so he didn't get back in time to have dinner with us, but he did get back in time for us to catch up on news before it was time to sleep :-). Saturday, after breakfast and meds, we headed to SingTel first, for me to change my SIM card, then we went wandering a bit, then went to Penny Black on Boat Quay to meet with Tony and another friend (Dave, and his little son, Mark) for lunch.. then wandered a bit more, and then home to rest. I had arranged to meet one of my friends (Hadar) for dinner at 7pm in Takashimaya, so I left the 'boys' at home to rest, and headed out at 6.30pm to meet Hadar. It was great seeing her again, and great catching up on all the news.
Sunday morning, left Tony and Husband to their own devices, and then went to meet up with another friend (Bilal) at Marmalade Pantry, Palais Renaissance, for lunch. He has just been in SG for a couple of months now, working for a company in SG now (as opposed to when we were both working with Capgemini on the Numonyx project).. so it was good to catch up with what has been happening with him too. After lunch we walked round the corner to Harry's Bar as Husband was there with Tony - and from there we went to pick up our mail from our friends house. Didnt stay out for too long as tiredness was catching up with Husband and we were supposed to be out for dinner too! And, Yes, dinner was at PRONTO restaurant at Great World, where we caught up with GraceC and CathyE. We enjoyed that outing too - quite good food, and excellent company... though next time I hope GraceC's husband can make it too - we MISSED him!
Monday was the key 'errand' day. Had to update the address on our SG ICs and then off to the Traffic Police to replace our SG driving licences as well (as PRs we get the SG driving licence for life!! No renewals any more). Then a bit more shopping and then home to rest before going out for dinner. Dinner was with Indu, Anita, and Sid - 3 ladies whom I absolutely love from my ICUS days, and whom I miss a LOT! It was SO good to catch up with them! We met at the same prata place near Tony's home, so that it would be easy for Husband to get home after dinner... so Husband and Tony joined us for dinner, then headed home, and the 4 of us just sat and YAKKED and YAKKED as there was so much to catch up on. Next time we are in SG (not sure when that will be) I hope we can get more of the ex-ICUS people together.
On Tuesday morning, we drove first to Husband's old office, so he could catch up with his ex-boss, Oskar (who is a very good friend as well)... and from there we drove across the 2nd Link and headed home. It was a peaceful drive - some heavy rain in patches, but otherwise very easy. Stopped 3 times, but still got home before 3pm.
Today Husband is exhausted and aching badly. The drive was tough on his back, and he is in a lot of pain today. He has been resting a lot today, but it will take at least a couple of days before he feels better. He enjoyed the trip though, and it was so good to be able to catch up with friends, even if we could not meet ALL our friends in the short time available. It was also one of the rare occasions when we managed to get Tony to ourselves (as he is rather a busy man!) and really spend time with him, and that was great! Now I am looking forward to him getting his new car and driving to KL in the not too distant future.
Well folks, that is it for now. Husband is resting, I have caught up on all chores, and the laundry, but have put off cooking till tomorrow :-). Keep Husband in your thoughts as he recovers from the aches of the drive.. and, till next time, stay safe, stay HEALTHY.
