'Tis February 2008, and I have a new phone!

Well, I have to say that M and I had a GREAT time here in good ol' Sinjapoh. Took her shopping and we didnt get past the first TWO STORES and she had already bought several items... which I have to say looked absolutely lovely on her. Too easy to spend money when you dont really plan to!! Have you noticed that? You go out specifically looking for something to buy... and you find nothing. You go out just window shopping and wandering.. and you end up buying too much! Husband and I, with M, drove back to KL on Sat 2nd Feb and we were in KL till 7th Feb. Just R&R really.

My Mum's birthday was on Feb 10th, and we had to make do with a phone call as Husband and I had returned to SG on 7th Feb. Both Mum and Dad weren't in the best of health either, so we hadn't done any celebration before Husband and I left KL. Nebber mind, we will celebrate properly next time we are both in KL.

The exciting thing that happened was that I got a new phone.. and let me tell you that the process of getting it in my hands was quite painful. You see, I have this issue where I have two phones to carry - for the last one year it was my office mobile and my personal mobile. For most of that time I had both lines combined onto one sim, and that works, but not the way I like. You see, only ONE line can be the PRIMARY number - and that had to be my work line. The other number, my personal line, was the SECONDARY. What it means is that when someone calls me on either number, I will get the phone call (or the SMS), but when I call or sms back, the recipient sees only my PRIMARY number... which can be confusing if you call my personal mobile (the SECONDARY number), and when I call you back you see a different number - the PRIMARY (work) number. And, of course, this only works if both lines are on the same operator (in this case, both were Maxis).

So, now that I have quit my job, and will be returning my work mobile number, and moving to SG again, I have to get a Singapore mobile number - and I want to keep my Malaysian mobile number. So how do I NOT carry two phones??? AH HA!! First I considered the Samsung SGH D880, which is a dual-sim phone.. BUT, unfortunately, even with two separate SIM slots, you still have to pick ONE as your primary and one as your secondary... so we are stuck with the same issue as before. BUT THEN... I found out about this phone called the WND DUO 2200 - this is LITERALLY, ONE phone, with TWO SIM SLOTS and TWO FACES. Have a look at the picture. That is me holding the phone, in front of a mirror so that you can see that the phone has two faces! So, 2 phones in ONE body, and it is still a tiny phone!

So, what was the problem with getting it? Well, ordering it was easy - get onto the TRUEGSM website and order online. There are 3 colour combinations (black/silver, black/gold, fuchsia/silver) and I picked black/gold, but they didnt have that in stock, so I ended up getting the black/silver. SO, they shipped it out to me pretty fast, via FedEx..... and then, guess what? Well, first of all, FedEx told me I needed to get SIRIM certification as it is a mobile phone.. HUH? OK, OK, so I asked them to sort it out for me. That cost an extra RM400!! (RM150 for the agent to do the certification, and RM250 for SIRIM!!!)... THEN, to get me even more annoyed, CUSTOMS charged tax as well - another RM172!!! THEN, to add further insult to injury, after everything was settled (so I thought), Customs, for whatever reason, wanted to check the package at the VERY LAST MINUTE on CHINESE NEW YEAR EVE! Man, I was furious - they had the package sitting at customs for 4 days... why did they wait till CNY EVE to decide they wanted to check it? I screamed at FedEx, and then apologised to them for screaming at them as it was not their fault. In the end, to make sure I got it before they closed for CNY, Husband and I had to DRIVE OUT TO the Cargo terminal, near the LCCT, find our way into the FedEx warehouse, and wait for them to prise my package out of the hands of the customs officials. Well, we finally got it at 5.30pm on CNY EVE!

So, I have been using the phone since day 1 of CNY, and I am quite pleased with it. Nothing fancy, but it DOES treat both SIMs as PRIMARY, has 2 separate address books, though you can share them if you want, has 2 separate cameras even(!!) and works pretty well. It is small and easy to carry. Battery life is not brilliant, but will last around 3 days, so I figure that is not too bad. In fact, just in case you run out of charge, they provide a mobile power store, which you charge up, which you can plug into your mobile if you run out of power, and the power store carries enough to charge the mobile twice over! Pretty neat.

What else? I am in SG till 18th Feb, then back in KL 19th to 22nd, then back to SG again till 24th, then back to KL till 27th... and that is IT.. no more to-ing and fro-ing for work any more. Have a couple of interviews coming up in SG, so keep fingers crossed that something good, job wise, comes my way.

Till the next time, have a great life.
