Busy January, and idiots on the roads!

Yep, Jan is a bit crazy, as I am back and forth between KL and SG practically every week. Feel a bit like a yo-yo! Let's see now..... Jan 1-5 in SG, Jan 6-9 in KL, Jan 10-16 in SG, Jan 17-21 in KL, Jan 22-24 in SG, Jan 25-Feb 01 in KL.... Mostly it is for meetings in both countries, which is what makes the to-ing and fro-ing unavoidable. In addition, the Malaysian side of the company I work for has organised a team to play a 'friendly' football match against a team made up of the 'Rest of the Region (including Singapore)' offices! It is on this coming Saturday, in SG, and since I am in SG this weekend I will be there to cheer (or boo) them on.

Now for some GOOD news.... Dad is so much better. His taste buds are almost back to normal, so he can eat pretty much anything now and he is starting to enjoy food again. He has been diligent about going for physiotherapy, and has started walking on a daily basis (when it is not raining). At today's follow up visit with the cardiologist he was told that he can go back to driving too - as long as he is not driving a truck. You can just imagine his relief! He HATES being immobile and having to depend on others to take him around.. though I have asked him to hold off at least till the TWO MONTH time line before he starts driving again - which isnt far off really, as the op was on Nov 19th, so by next week - Jan 18 - he hits the 2 month mark. Let's see if he can be patient till then.

And now to the other part of my title = the IDIOTS on the road. I just have a few simple questions: Do motorcyclists in Malaysia have a death wish? Do they have no respect for their OWN lives (let's forget about them having respect for other people's lives!!)? Why do they always drive the WRONG way down a road - regardless of how busy that road is? Why do they shoot through red lights? Why do they shoot off before a light turns green? Why do KIDS ride around on motorbikes - with no helmets, no license, and sometimes up to 3 or 4 on a single bike? Why do adults take kids on bikes without any helmets? Do people not care that they could end up maimed or, worst case, DEAD? Don't the parents care about the kids ending up maimed or dead? And, without trying to pinpoint any particular group of people, why is it that, almost without exception, the MAJORITY of people who do all this are Malays? Are they trying to get to God faster? Well, do get to God faster if you want to, but DONT involve others in your death wish!

The number of times I have been peacefully driving along in the CORRECT direction, and come head to head with a motor-cyclist coming in the OPPOSITE direction in the same lane, or shooting out of a side road without checking to see if someone is coming, just doesn't bear thinking about. If you want to die, be my guest, but DO NOT INCLUDE ME IN THAT!
