Back in hospital, again....

... since late Saturday (14th Nov) night.

The antibiotics were working too too slowly, probably because it did not spend enough time in his gastro system to actually be absorbed, so Husband was still getting weaker and weaker by the day, though he was being incredibly good about drinking a LOT, and even eating.

Tony and HP were visiting over the weekend, which was something we were both really looking forward to... but even with that we had said that we would go back to the hospital on Sunday, after Tony and HP left. BUT, by Sat evening, Husbands' heart was starting to get a bit erratic, so my brother told me not to WAIT till Sunday, but to take him to the A&E at the hospital immediately, so that is what we did.

Got to the A&E around 10pm on Sat, got him in, on the drip, got the gastro specialist in, and then finally got him into a private room. They let the first drip finish (1 hour), then they put him on the SAME antibiotics but in liquid form, so they were also administered via the drip. By the time they finished the first saline bottle, followed by two antibiotics (30 mins each), and then back onto saline mixed with electrolytes, it was already 2am, so you can imagine how exhausted we were. Unfortunately, exhaustion did not translate into sleep, especially for Husband! He was sitting up, lying down, sitting up, all night long... and, of course, with the nurses coming in periodically to check his blood pressure, check his temperature, check the IV, etc, neither of us got much in the way of rest!

7am on Sunday, I went back home, picked up clothes and toiletries, had a shower, said bye to Tony and Peng (as they would let themselves out of the house and head home later in the morning), and headed back to the hospital...

The intravenously administered antibiotics took two days to take effect, and it is only TODAY (Monday) that we have started seeing some positive results. The constant horribly liquid trots has slowed down drastically, and is no longer quite as 'liquid'. Husband is obviously retaining more of the nutrition that is going into him, his electrolytes have been almost restored to normal, and he is finally (right now, in fact, as I type this posting) getting some sleep. However, his abdominal area, when the gastro doctor presses gently, is still very very painful. So tomorrow morning they are doing a procedure to check the insides of his intestines to see what is the real extent of the 'damage' caused by the radiotherapy. I think that if the overall status (after the procedure) is positive, then we should be able to go home tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.. if not, it will be on Wednesday, or whenever the doctor decrees! I am also not quite sure at this time if we are even going to be able to make it to Melaka on Thursday for his next chemo session. Have to check with the oncologist if we can postpone it again!

So, what else is new? Hmmm, Friday was my birthday - and it was, I can honestly say, one of the saddest birthdays I have ever had - seeing my beloved Husband so sick and weak, and being terrified every day at the possibility of losing him. It didn't help that he was also so miserable that he was not well enough to properly celebrate my birthday with me! I have made him promise that for my next years birthday, when I hit the half century mark, he will be WELL, and we will celebrate it, and he will spoil me rotten - and he has totally agreed with my 'suggestion'. Tomorrow is my brother-in-laws' birthday, and on Thursday it is my brothers' birthday - but both of them are just going to get IOU's as pressies, as I have had zero time to go hunt for any kind of birthday present! Oh dear, I don't even know if I will have time to go hunt for Xmas pressies either!

So, that's it for now folks! Till next time, please continue to keep Husband in your thoughts and prayers and, don't forget, stay safe, stay HEALTHY!
