All done and over and he is back. Was back in room by 10am. Later than expected because the plastic surgeon who is supposed to take over the role of getting the sore healed ASAP came in late - due to not having gotten the message of the procedure starting at 8.30am, instead of 9am. But, once he got there, things got done fast. The previous dressing has been removed - the wound is now in far better condition than it was on Op day. A little bit more necrotic flesh had to be taken out, but very little, and overall looks clean.
Plastic surgeon has recommended a special type of dressing that needs to be changed three times daily (minimum twice a day), with a drainage channel that will drain out the accumulating fluids. This will speed up the healing process! The nurses will have to change the dressing, and Husband will probably have to stay in hospital until next weekend, but if it actually does speed up the healing process, then it is well worth it.
He is in pain still from the sore, and discomfort from the surgery to reverse the ileostomy. Luckily, the pain in the surgical site is reducing on a daily basis, which is a bit of a relief.
Nights aren't going to be any easier, but, still, we can see a light at the end of the tunnel, however faint that light may be. And, I guess, after all this suffering, when Husband starts on chemotherapy, that is going to be a piece of cake in comparison to what he is going through now.
Keep him in your thoughts... and, till next time, may life treat you kindly, and if you are ever hospitalised do ANYTHING to avoid getting bed-sores.
